The Benefits and Experience of a Summer Internship

Summer internships are some of the most informative and rewarding parts of being a young professional. With the ability to listen, watch, and learn, the intern wears many hats as they absorb information from the professionals around them. When I chose to intern at TBG this summer, I was entering relatively blind to an industry I had only recently come to realize existed. I had just begun to scratch the surface of the powerhouse that is the recruiting industry, the people behind the scenes so to speak, who hunt for the right candidates for roles that keep companies thriving. At the core, what makes a business succeed is the work of its employees, and those employees are found by recruiters, who assemble the staffing puzzle.

This summer I have been working closely with the Operations, Human Resources, and Marketing teams. I have been lucky enough to get to know TBG from the inside out, learning how the company operates and succeeds. Working in the back office has strengthened my written and verbal communication skills as I correspond with internal employees, deepened my computer programs repertoire as I work in systems like Excel, Canva, and applicant tracking systems, and most importantly, gave me insight into the company culture at TBG.

What I’ve learned at TBG this summer has had an indescribable impact on my growth as a young professional. While it is daunting to think about being a fresh college graduate entering the job market, the skills that I’ve gleaned at TBG even in these short few months have eased some of my anxieties about the future. I’ve learned the power of networking, and fostering positive relationships with those around you because you never know who can lend a helping hand down the road. I’ve also honed the skill of collaboration, as the back office team works together to accomplish goals and meet deadlines. I’ve learned how to self advocate, and to ask for help if I feel unsure about something, as the guidance will only help me do a better job in the end. I’ve been lucky enough to learn from so many fantastic individuals in my time here at TBG, and the career advice I’ve collected has boosted my confidence tremendously. I am grateful for my time at TBG and look forward to what the future holds!

A Day in the Life of a TBG Summer Intern: Balancing Work and Studies

Hi, my name is Taylor, and I am interning for TBG this summer! I’m thrilled to share with you a glimpse into my life as a summer intern. I am currently a college student juggling both work and classes; my schedule is filled with exciting challenges and opportunities. Working with TBG has given me the flexibility to gain professional experience while pursuing my education. So, what does a typical workday look like for me?

8:00 AM – Rise and Shine!

My day begins at 7:45 AM, after I have hit snooze at least 3 times. After a refreshing night’s sleep, I’m eager to start the day. I make sure to have a nutritious breakfast and an iced coffee to kickstart my morning. I also make sure to feed my cat Mimsy! I leave my house around 8:20 for my 40-minute commute.

9:00 AM – Time to Work

By 9:00 AM, I arrive at work, sit down at my desk and get comfortable, and am ready to tackle the day’s tasks. Working as a part-time intern has allowed me to maintain a great work-life balance. I spend time working in the office and have the opportunity to occasionally work from home.

Some of My Daily Tasks

I am challenged with new tasks every day. The variety in my work keeps me refreshed and working hard. Here are some examples of the main tasks I complete day to day.

Creating Job Postings and Job Ads

As an intern working with a national search firm, one of my primary responsibilities is to create engaging job postings and ads to attract top talent. I enjoy the creative process of crafting compelling content that showcases our company’s culture and values.

Searching for Candidates

Next, I dive into candidate sourcing. I use various platforms and tools to identify potential candidates who match our job requirements. It’s like solving a puzzle – finding the perfect fit for each role.

Emailing Potential Clients

Part of my internship also involves reaching out to potential clients to explore collaboration opportunities. Crafting personalized and professional emails is crucial, as it sets the stage for building meaningful connections.

12:00 PM – Lunch Break

At noon, it’s time for a well-deserved lunch break. I step away from my desk to relax and recharge. Whether it’s cooking a quick meal or ordering something delicious, taking this break helps me return to my work with renewed energy.

1:00 PM – Back to Business

After lunch, I dive back into my tasks with the same enthusiasm. Working as a TBG Intern has taught me the value of self-discipline and staying focused.

4:00 PM – Wrapping Up the Day

I tend to wrap up work around 4:00 PM most days. As my workday comes to a close, I ensure that I’ve accomplished my priorities for the day. I check my emails one last time, respond to any urgent queries, and update my TBG Daily Journal.

5:30 PM – Hitting the Gym

After logging off from work, it’s time to head to the gym for a workout session. Staying active is essential for both my physical and mental well-being. My favorite form of exercise is weightlifting. It not only keeps me active, but also allows me to build my strength.

6:00 PM – Dinner and Relaxation

With the workout done, I return home and make dinner or pick something up while I am out. This is a great time to unwind, catch up with family, throw a record on my turntable, or read a book. Occasionally I will have homework or need to study for my summer class, but it isn’t too bad after my small break from work.

Although working Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays can be a bit demanding, it has been a rewarding experience. It allows me to balance my studies on Tuesdays and Thursdays while still gaining valuable professional skills. The flexibility and nature of my internship has taught me self-discipline, time management, and adaptability.

Overall, I couldn’t be happier with my summer internship experience. It has opened doors to new opportunities and broadened my horizons in ways I never imagined. I’m grateful for the chance to grow both as a student and a young professional, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next!

Thanks for joining me on this day in my life as a TBG summer intern!
